Part-way through my re-watch of Babylon 5 – currently in S2E14 “There All The Honour Lies.

Captain Sheridan has just told Commander Ivanova that Earth Force is opening a gift shop on the station, selling all sorts of merchandise and memorabilia featuring B5.

Her response – “This is demeaning, we’re not some deep space franchise!”

And I nearly wet myself.

This episode came out when ST:DS9 was deep into production, after Paramount (the network behind the Star Trek franchise) had spent time working on B5 before passing on it, saying there wasn’t a market for it, then launching DS9, a show that was nearly identical in concept.

And I get the feeling that J M Straczynski and Peter David were having a bit of fun there.
